REPOST @sanpatrignano — “It felt like a black hole.” That’s how Francesco describes the last five months before coming to San Patrignano. He was just 14 when, out of curiosity and influenced by a group of older friends, he first started using drugs. What began as simply wanting to try soon became part of his everyday life. He can’t really explain how things spiralled so far, so quickly. His phone was always switched off. He spent his days with nowhere to go. His relationship with his family had fallen apart. His father had asked him to leave home, and his weight had dropped to just 45 kilos. Then, one morning, something changed. He realised he couldn’t keep living that way. The decision to come to San Patrignano was his own. On his first day, he wanted to leave. But he stayed. And slowly, his journey began — learning to look within himself, to face what he had been avoiding, and to accept the things he had never been able to see before. Today, Francesco works in our decoration workshop, which he joined one year and ten months ago. He feels calmer, useful, and able to face difficult moments without wanting to run away. He is rebuilding his relationship with his father. And, perhaps most importantly, he has started imagining a future for himself again. He doesn’t know exactly where that future will take him yet. THE FORGOTTEN PONYTAIL. Completely forgotten. Completely 80s. And completely modern. One of the preferred hairstyles of the fashion elite and private school girls throughout the 1980s, yet somehow almost completely erased from the way we remember the decade. From the early 80s, long hair was pulled back low at the nape of the neck. Sometimes tied simply, sometimes finished with a ribbon or oversized bow. It had a slightly schoolgirl, equestrian quality and a nod to the polished femininity of the late 50s and early 60s. As the decade moved on, it became sleeker. The low ponytail worked perfectly with the increasingly pared back fashion coming out of Paris, Milan and New York. Black knits, crisp shirts, blazers, Levi’s 501s, ballet flats and loafers. By the mid to late 80s it was one of the signatures of fashion forward women. These Calvin Klein images capture the look perfectly. Restrained, polished and incredibly chic. Big hair existed in the 80s, of course. But for many of the fashion elite and private school girls, this was the hair of the decade.

A jewel box of a book ✨ This 19th century French sales sample book contains very thin metal ornaments, made of pressed foil. These would have been used like fancy sequins, and adorned everything from cards to clothes! They’re sometimes called Dresdens after the town in Germany where many were made. So many marvelous people to thank (as Nat King Cole sings) in making the London launch of my book such a success. A table display of my @pomegranate_inc linens was set up in the great hall. Chaos then ensued when 100s of people jammed in around it for a drink before heading into the talk.
